On December 2, the Asian Financial Summit
Forum and Asian Financial Think Tank Annual Forum (2020) was successfully held
in Guangzhou, China. This year’s forum, themed “New Trends of Global Financial
Cooperation amid the Impact of Pandemic”, was hosted by Asian Financial
Cooperation Association.
Vice Chairman Zhou Liang of China Banking
and Insurance Regulatory Commission attended the forum and delivered a keynote
speech. Mr. Chen Zhiying, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Guangzhou
Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor of Guangzhou Municipal
Government, congratulated the convening of the annual meeting. Ms. Catherine
McGuinness, Chair of Policy & Resources Committee, City of London
Corporation, Mr. Chen Kewen, Secretary General of Asian Financial Cooperation
Association, Ms. Zhang Min, Elected Vice President of China Construction Bank,
and Mr. Chen Yong, District Head of the Huangpu District, Executive Deputy
Director of the Management Committee of Guangzhou Development Zone shared their
views and suggestions on how to give full play to the role of AFCA and AFTT to
further strengthen financial cooperation in Asia and even the world under the
impact of the epidemic.
Mr. Ba Shusong, Chief Economist of AFCA,
released Financial Report for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
(2020). This year is the third consecutive year that the annual report has been
released. The report of Year 2020 systematically sorted out the economic
connotation, formation mechanism, evolution trend and development momentum of
the Bay Area, and studied how the financial industry in the Guangdong-Hong
Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area under the new situation supports the recovery of
the real economy after the epidemic, how to serve the “dual cycle” development
pattern, and help build a world-class Bay Area.
Mr. Zhu Xiaohuang, Former President of
China CITIC Bank, Mr. Andrew Tilton, Chief Asia-Pacific Economist &
Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, Mr. Lian Ping, Chairman of China Chief
Economist Forum, Chief Economist and President of ZhiXin Investment Research
Institute, Mr. Jochen Biedermann, Managing Director of the World Alliance of
International Financial Centres, Mr. Shane Akeroyd, President of Asia Pacific
and Global Head of Account Management, IHS Markit, Mr. Zhang Hui, Vice
President of China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE), Mr.
Zheng Yongqiang, Deputy General Manager, Chief Investment Officer and Chief
Finance Officer of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (China) Co., Ltd, and other
speakers delivered speeches focusing on topics such as Globalization amid the
Impact of Pandemic, New Opportunities for Belt and Road Financial Cooperation,
Technology Development Supports Regional Financial Cooperation and Combating
Epidemic. Experts in the forum pointed out that although the epidemic has brought
certain impacts and challenges to international financial cooperation, it
reminds us to a greater extent that only closer international cooperation could
withstand risks and challenges.
The forum was broadcast online
simultaneously. Over 300 representatives and participants from financial
regulators, AFCA member institutions and non-member financial institutions from
22 countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and
the United States attended the forum. At the same time, the forum organized
“Greater Bay Area Tour” for Financial Institutions representatives to visit and
investigate some key enterprises, to learn about the local real economy
development status as well as economic and financial support policies, and
matching financing cooperation needs.
