Mr. Byung Chil KIM is the Director General of the International Affairs Department (Financial Hub Korea) at the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), in charge of a wide range of duties from engaging in global standard setting, monitoring changes in global standards, strengthening international financial cooperation, exchanging information with overseas supervisory authorities, to promoting Korea as an international financial center.
Starting his career in the public sector in 1995 at the Bank of Korea, Mr. Kim joined the FSS in 1999. He then assumed his duty as the Head of BCBS Team at the Bank Supervision Department in 2009, and worked at the FSS Representative Office in New York for three years from 2011. Upon his return in 2014, Mr. Kim became the Head of Examination Quality Control and Appeals Review Team at the Supervision Coordination Department.
From 2015, Mr. Kim was appointed the Head of the Examination Team of the Loan Business Examination Office, until he became the Head of Supervision Coordination Team of the Supervision Coordination Department in 2016. After being promoted to the Deputy Director General of the Bank Coordination Team at the Bank Supervision Department in 2017, Mr. Kim is currently heading the International Affairs Department as the Director General from January 2020.
Mr. Kim received a B.A. in business administration from Korea University in 1995, and earned an MBA from Manchester University in 2003.
